Visual Movie Review: Metropolis

1.1
Humans are the only self-reflective creatures, at least insofar as we loudly announce our self-reflection to Creation in ways that other animals do not (or that we cannot decipher). I think that this self-reflection, in all of its diverse means, is what we call Philosophy.

1.2
The natural philosophers of Babel (in this case, astronomers) worship the idea of building the tower, claiming they will reach the stars.

1.3

1.4

the epigraph shouts man's knowledge of himself
even though the tower cannot be finished

1.5

we are the children of the Metropolis

2.1
devotion to thought taken to the extreme of enslaving another

(while holding the keys of natural philosophy and its mechanical benefits)

2.2
the mediation between god and man cannot be death

how do we worship the god that asks us to kill

2.3
each body reflects the ordering of the universe

let the theology of our institutions begin now

3.1
let all new humanisms account for their technology

beware all false uprisings and false religions

3.2
to create a false christ

make god and man into one

3.3
violent rebellion is a destructive response to oppression;

it can be manipulated and controlled by the oppressive authority
